Matter Custom Data Overview

Custom data is a way of storing important information within a matter. For example, perhaps you want to record settlement dates for conveyancing matters. You can do this using a custom data field.

In Actionstep, you can group custom data fields into what's called a custom data collection. These fields also act as merge fields.

When creating custom matter data, you must first create the data collection first. Then, you can create the fields that will be used in the collection.

Viewing Custom Data

Custom data collections appear along the top menu bar of your matter.

When you click one of these collections, you can then edit the individual data fields for that collection:

Creating Custom Data Collections and Data Fields

Custom data collections are associated with specific matter types. Admins can create them in the Admin section of Actionstep. You can associate a data collection with related matters, if needed. Finally, you can assign system-wide permissions that determine who can access the data collection within the matter and make changes to the collected data.

For help setting up custom data collections, see these articles:

NOTE:  You can also create custom data fields for participants. See Introduction to Participant Custom Data to learn more.
