If you have fields in a data collection that you want to use in other matter types, you can copy them.
To do this:
- In Practice Management, go to Admin >Matter Types. The Matter Types page appears.
- Click Settings for the matter type you want to copy the fields into. For example, if you want to copy fields from a data collection in the Family Law matter type into the Divorce matter type, edit the Divorce matter type.
- Click Manage next to Matter data. The Matter Data page appears.
- Choose whether you're copying fields into a new data collection or an existing data collection:
- If you are creating a new data collection, proceed to Step 5.
- If you are updating an existing data collection, skip to Step 9.
- Click Create data collection. The New Data Collection window appears.
- Complete the information requested. (See Creating a Data Collection for a Matter (Admin) for specific instructions.)
- Optionally, add new fields for this data collection. (You will copy existing fields later.)
- Click Save to save the data collection.
- On the Matter Data page, click Fields for the data collection you want to update with other data fields.
The Data Collection Fields page appears.
- Click Copy data fields. The Copy Data Collection Fields window appears.
- Click the Copy from drop-down list and select the matter type + data collection you want to copy. TIP: Matter type names are listed using all uppercase letters, while specific data collections are listed in regular case (or whatever case was used to create the collection).
- In the Fields to copy section, select the specific fields in the collection you want to copy, or select (Copy all fields).
- Click Copy. The fields you selected are copied and you are returned to the Data Collection Fields page.
- Optionally, click Edit next to a field name to make any adjustments. Thenave your changes.
