Setting Aliases and Terminology in System Preferences (Admin)

Modified on Tue, 3 Sep at 5:27 PM

You can customize how actions, participants, and disbursements are referenced in your Actionstep system. For example, you may refer to actions as cases in your firm, but other firms may refer to them as matters. You can choose the term that should be used throughout the Actionstep program.

NOTE:  These options may not be available in your Actionstep system. If you would like to enable them, please create an Actionstep Support ticket and request that the plug-in be enabled.

To do this:

  1. In Actionstep, go to Admin > General Settings. The System Preferences page appears.
  2. In the Aliases / terminology section, enter the following information:
    • Action Alias or Actions Alias: Specify the terms that should be used for matters/actions (both singular and plural instances) in your system. Changing this will affect the word matter or matters in almost all places in Actionstep. (The default values for these fields are Matter and Matters.)
    • Participant Alias or Participants Alias: Specify the terms (both singular and plural) that should be used for participant records in the system. Changing these will affect menu items and records. (The default value for these fields is Contact and Contacts.)
NOTE:  While custom text you enter here may change some instances, many instances have been hard coded to ignore these aliases.
    • Disbursements Alias: Specify what disbursements or expenses are called in Actionstep. (The default value for this field is set regionally: in US and Canadian systems, it is set to Expenses. In other systems, it is set to Disbursements.)
  3. When you're finished making your changes, click Save
