Setting Regional Date Formats in System Preferences (Admin)

Modified on Tue, 3 Sep at 5:26 PM

An admin can change how dates appear in your Actionstep system. These preferences also affect the default format for dates that are used in merge fields.

NOTES:
• These settings may not be available in your Actionstep system. If you are interested, contact Support and ask for the plug-in to be enabled.
• There are some exceptions where the date formats in Actionstep are still hard-coded and will not be affected by the following format options.

To set your regional date formats:

  1. In Actionstep, go to Admin > General Settings. The System Preferences page appears.
  2. In the Regional date formats section, enter the following information:
NOTE:  The date fields in this section use PHP formatting. For example %d will display the day of the month as two digits: 01 to 31.
    • User input date format: Choose the date format users are expected to use when entering dates. The main purpose of this is to differentiate if the date will be entered in American date format (Month / Date / Year) or European format (Date / Month / Year).
NOTE:  There are two User input date format fields in this section. The first field will be used in most parts of the system such as entering a date on a custom data field. The second field will be used in older forms in Actionstep, such as older reports like the Multi Matter Profitability report.
    • Short style date format: Choose how dates will be formatted when they are in a short format (e.g., 5 Jan 2025).
    • Long style date format: Choose how dates will be formatted when they are in a long format (e.g., Wednesday, 5th January 2013).
    • Merge field date format: Choose how dates will be formatted when used in a merge field. Note that using the |fm=  merge field option can alter the format of a date in a merge field.
    • First day of the Week: Choose what will be shown as the first day of the week in calendars and in calendar widgets. This is usually set to Sunday or Monday, depending on your region.
    • Report page size: Choose the page size you want to use for PDF reports.
  3. When you're finished making your changes, click Save.
