Changing the Look of a Builder Interview

You can customize the order in which questions are asked in your interview as well as how the variables are laid out. You can customize layouts for both catalog models and object models. 

To do this: 

1. Open the Builder Online Workspace. (See Accessing the Builder Online Workspace for help.) 
2. Click the Designer tab.  
3. In the Elements list (left side of the page), select either the catalog or the object model whose layout you want to change.  
   NOTES: 
   • Adjusting the layout at the catalog level allows you to arrange the high-level components of the interview—object variables and standalone variables. If you want to arrange fields in an object variable, you'll need to make those changes in the object model. 
   
   • If you want to adjust the layout of fields used in your participant-type object variables, you'll make those changes in the as:action_participant object model. Just remember that any changes you make will affect all participant type object variables that reference the object model.
4. In the Details section of the page, click the Layouts tab.  
5. Click the Grid Columns drop-down list and choose how many variables wide you want the interview to be. For example, to place three variables side by side, choose 3.
   
6. In the Layout section, select and drag a variable to the location you want it to be. For example, if you have First, Middle, and Last Name variables, drag Middle and Last so they appear on the same line as First.  
7. To further customize the layout, click the menu icon for a specific variable and choose from the following options: 
   • Position: Choose this option to change how many columns a variable uses. For example, if you’ve set your Layout to use three grid columns, you can add two variables to the same row and set one of the variables to use a Span of 2, which means it will take up two columns while the other variable takes just one. 
   • Move to: Use this option as an alternate way to move variables around on the Layout tab. 
   • Delete: Use this option to delete a variable.  
8. To add standalone text to the interview (such as an explanation or description), click the Drag to create an information cell field and drag it to the location in the layout where you want the text to be shown. Then enter the text.

9. When you’re finished making changes, click the Save icon.
