Format Variable Prompts and Layout Text in Builder

You can format the text that appears throughout your interview. For example, you may want to apply bold formatting to a question prompt, or use a heading-style information cell in your layout. 


The following are examples of some of the text you can format:

  • A variable's Question Prompt or Question Help. This includes both object models, object variables, and standalone variables. 
  • Options in a Selection variable.
  • Information cell in a variable's Layout.



To do this:

  1. Open the Builder Online Workspace. (See Accessing the Builder Online Workspace for help.) 
  2. Click the Designer tab.
  3. Find the text-based option for the element you want to adjust. For example, to format a variable prompt, edit the variable and find the Question Prompt field.
  4. Add your content to the field, based on the following information:

    Bold
    **This is the bold text**
    This is the **bold text**
    Italic*This is the italic text*

    Apply primary color defined in Builder Settings

    Note: You can access your Builder system colors by clicking your user icon and choosing Settings.
    <accent 1>This is the text</accent>
    OR
    <accent>This is the text</accent>
    Apply secondary color

    This color is derived from Builder's primary accent color
    <accent 2>This is the text</accent>
    Apply tertiary color defined in Builder Settings

    This color is derived from Builder's primary accent color
    <accent 3>This is the text</accent>
    Apply complimentary-to-primary color

    This color is complimentary to the primary accent color
    <accent c>This is the text</accent>
    Apply red color
    <accent red>This is the text</accent>
    Insert video<player url="insert video url here">
    Left-aligned image![alt text](https://URLforImage "Your alt text")
    Center-aligned image<center>![alt text](https://URLforImage "Your alt text")<center>
  5. Click the Save icon to save your changes.
