Understanding the Features Available in Actionstep Practice Pro + Accounting

Actionstep Practice Management supports two product tiers:

  • Actionstep Practice Pro
  • Actionstep Practice Pro + Accounting

Actionstep Practice Pro + Accounting builds on the foundation of Practice Pro by offering significantly more capabilities, including a full GL accounting system, granular user permissions around menus and data, a robust Xero integration, the ability to set up an Actionstep calendar, setting up a firm-wide knowledge base, and AR reporting. 


Following is a full list of the features you have access to when subscribed to the Practice Pro + Accounting plan:


Accounting Features

  • Built-in general ledger accounting system 
  • A Sales / Billing menu, which includes sales invoices, credit invoices, and aged receivables
  • Supplier Invoices / Purchases menu, which includes tools for managing purchase/supplier/vendor invoices, credit invoices, aged payables list, and purchase payments
  • A Accounts menu, which includes tools for managing accounts list, general journals, budgets, and KPIs
  • Banking menu, which includes tools for managing banking transactions, reconciliations, deposit slips, and electronic batches
  • Checks menu
  • Divisions, which support a sub-set of users using the same processes, branding, and email account while running individual sets of financial accounts.
  • Using multiple currencies
  • Access to all accounting-related reports
  • Accounting settings that allow you to set up:
    • System accounts  
    • Tax return settings  
    • Tax codes and rates  
    • Check series  
    • Auto-numbers  
    • Recurring billing cycles  
    • Price groups  

Integration with Xero

  • Includes the ability to link and sync sales invoices, supplier invoices, and trust/client transactions.
  • Configure the account for bank transfers 
  • Use GL account mapping to link the different accounts between the two products 
  • Use GST mapping to link tax codes between the two products

  • Use currency mapping to link currencies between the two products

    NOTE:  The Xero integration with just Practice Pro limits you to creating and removing links between sales invoices, payments, and credit notes. These limits—as well as the inability to not turn on/off synchronization as needed—requires users to correct all mistakes in Actionstep, which means undoing reconciliations, multi payments etc. just to adjust an invoice. Turning off the sync allows manual adjustment in both Actionstep and Xero separately with ease.  


Non-Accounting Features

  • Set Menu Permissions and Data Permissions (accessible from Admin > Users & Permissions)

  • Matter Lock-up Report
  • Actionstep Calendar, which supports:
    • Custom display name
    • Default alerts/notifications
    • Ability to toggle alerts
    • Notification of changes
    • Append/prepend merge fields to title and description
  • Setting up a firm knowledge base
  • Setting up email aliases
  • AR Import tool
