Cash Flow Report

Overview

The Cash Flow Report shows changes in your cash position over time. It's a key financial report to see how your business is performing on a cash basis. The report displays cash flow for three activities: Operating, investing, and financing.  

 

Cash Flow Report Setup

For an account's information to factor into the Cash Flow Report, a Cashflow section must be designated for the account. 

These sections can be designated in the Accounts List located at Accounting > Accounts > Accounts List.

To edit an account, first select Master Accounts in the Display dropdown.

Next, select the name of the account for which you'd like to set the Cashflow section.

Finally, select a Cashflow section in the dropdown in the Additional details section of the Edit account screen.

Typical Account Setup

As a general guide the following accounts should be included under each section (Select "None" for all other accounts):

 

Operating

  • Depreciation
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Inventories
  • Accounts Payable
  • Notes Payable
  • Accrued Expenses Payable
  • Taxes Payable

Investing

  • Marketable Securities

Financing

  • Long Term Debt
  • Preferred Stock
  • Common Stock
  • Additional Paid-in Capital
Note: This is just the typical setup which can be altered for you purposes. 

 

 Accessing the Cash Flow Report

The Cash Flow Report is located at Reports > Accounting Reports in the financial category.

 

Report Configuration Options

Reporting Period The reporting period date range determines the information displayed in the left column of the report. Only figures for the selected date range are displayed.
Comparison PeriodThe comparison period date range determines the information displayed in the right column of the report. Only figures for the selected date range are displayed. This can be useful to display information from the prior week, month, or year for comparison purposes.

Cash Flows From Operating ActivitiesDisplays the income minus expenses from accounts coded to the operating cash flow designation
Net Cash Flow From OperationsSums the cash flows from all operating accounts for the selected date range
Cash Flows From Investing ActivitiesDisplays the income minus expenses from accounts coded to the investing cash flow designation
Net Cash Flow From Investing ActivitiesSums the cash flows from all investing accounts for the selected date range
Cash Flows from Financing ActivitiesDisplays the income minus expenses from accounts coded to the financing cash flow designation
Net Cash Flow From Financing ActivitiesSums the cash flows from all financing accounts for the selected date range
Net Change in CashSums all Operations, Investing, and Financing activity amounts to display a total of cash flow from each column
