This article will walk you through logging in for the first time, where and how to log in, how to log out, and how to reset your password.
Logging in for the First Time
To be able to log into Actionstep first you will need to receive an invitation email with a link to the system log-in page. (This is usually sent by the System Administrator)
- Click on the link provided in the email invitation.
- Enter your email address and create a password (this is only for your first time logging in)
- The next time you go to log into Actionstep you will need to go tohttp://go.actionstep.com
- To log out of Actionstep - click on 'Log out' at the top right of your home screen.
Go to http://go.actionstep.com and enter your email address and password.
You can also access the login page from the Actionstep website
To end your Actionstep session click on "Logout” at the top-right of your screen.
When you go to the log-in page at Actionstep, there is a "Forgotten Password?" option above the Login button.
Click on this and it will take you to a page that will ask you for your email address. Enter your email address and you will automatically be emailed a link with instructions on how to reset your password.
|WARNING: Actionstep will automatically log you off after about 8 hours of inactivity. If you put your computer into "sleep" mode overnight you may still see the same screens when you open it up again in the morning, however, you will need to log in again to refresh the data.|
If you make a mistake when entering your login details, you will be prompted to re-enter the details and tick a ‘Re-Captcha’ box to confirm you aren’t a robot trying to hack the account.
In the event that you tick the box too ‘robot-like,’ you will then need to answer a quick question to verify you are in fact human.
Creating a Strong Password
To keep your account safe, here are a few tips on how to create a strong password:
Make your password 16 characters or longer
Long passwords or passphrases are recommended to be more secure than passwords with different alphanumeric characters and letters. An 8-character password with upper & lower case letters, numbers, and symbols can be guessed by a bot in around 8 hours. A 15-character long password of only lowercase letters would take about 1000 years. A 15-character password with upper & lower case letters, numbers, and symbols would take about 15 billion years.
A passphrase combines multiple unrelated/random words and is longer than 15 characters. You can use spaces in between words, dashes, periods, or just about anything you like.

If you use a password management app that auto-generates passwords for you, there's likely a setting you can change so that it generates passphrases.
Don’t start or end your password with a space character.
The space character cannot easily be "seen" when it is at the start or end of a password. To prevent inadvertent use, Actionstep will not accept a password that starts or ends with a space character.
Q. Can an admin change a user's password?
A.Admins do not have access to other users' passwords. The user will need to reset their password by going to the login page at go.actionstep.com.
If you do have access to the user's Actionstep account, then you can reset the password inside of Actionstep. You'll want to go to the user's "My Profile" page (click on the user's name on the right side of the screen). Under the user's contact information, you will be able to change the password.
Q.I have clicked to reset my password but I haven't been sent a new password?
Q.I am unable to log in, what do I do?
A.Test if you are able to log in using a different browser. If you are able, it may be that you are using an auto-fill on your usual browser and it is auto-filling outdated credentials. If that doesn't seem to solve the problem, reach out to our Support Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
