Setting Up Custom Price Groups (Admin)

Modified on Fri, 4 Oct at 4:33 PM

In this article:

A custom price group is a collection of rate labels you want to apply to multiple matters of a certain type.

For example, let's say you have non-government clients and you want to apply one rate group to their matters, like this:

  • Administration: $75 per hour
  • Paralegal: $150 per hour
  • Lawyer: $350 per hour

Your government contracts, however, have negotiated different costs from your private clients:

  • Administration: $50 per hour
  • Paralegal: $100 per hour
  • Lawyer: $250 per hour

Since your default rate labels are set up for private customers in the above example, you'd need to set up government rate labels each time you create a new government-based matter type. To avoid this, you can create a custom price group.

Creating a Custom Price Group

To create (or edit) a custom price group:

  1. In Actionstep, go to Admin > Accounting. The Accounting page appears.
  2. Click Edit for the Price Groups section. The Price Groups List page appears.
  3. Either click New Price group or click the name of the price group you want to edit. The Price Group window appears.
  4. Enter a name for the group in Price Group Name.
  5. Enter the custom rates for each rate label. (Rate labels are managed in Admin > Billing > Rate labels.)
  6. When you are finished, click Save

Specifying a Price Group for a Matter

Once you've created a custom price group, you can assign it to a matter's billing that requires something other than the default.

To do this:

  1. In Actionstep, view the matter you want to adjust. (See Editing a Matter for help.)
  2. Click the Billing menu icon. The different Billing options appear.
  3. In the menu on the left, click Matter billing options
  4. In the Billing arrangement section, click the Price group drop-down list and choose the price group you want used for this matter.
  5. Click Save to save your changes.
