At times you may need to remove a rate label from your system.
Because rates may be in use, they must be merged into an existing rate. This will replace rate label settings for users, matters, and contacts that reference that rate. Existing items will still use the rate value for which they were created.
For example, let's say you've created a rate sheet for "Lawyer". However, you later decide you want to split this into two new rate sheets and create new labels—one for "Senior Lawyer" and one for "Junior Lawyer". If you decide to delete the "Lawyer" rate label, you must merge it into another rate label. This means the rate label name will change to that of the one you are merging into, but the rate value will not.
If you do not want the rate label to change, you can still create the new rate label(s) and rather than delete the old one, you can toggle its Active status to off. This way, your current time entries will remain the same with the same rate labels but going forward, your users can no longer use the previous rate label. It will only be visible in the Admin settings. Another option is to change the rate of a rate label that is in use. This will only change the value of those rate labels after you have made this change. It will not change the values of the time records that were made before you changed the rate.
To remove a rate label:
- In Actionstep, go to Admin > Billing. The Billing page appears.
- In the Rate labels section, click the link for the rate label you want to remove. The Edit Rate Label window appears.NOTE: If you'd rather disable the rate label and not delete it entirely, toggle Active to off, then click Save to save your changes. There are no additional steps for you to complete.
- Click Delete. The Delete rate label page appears.
- Select the rate label you want to delete from the table.
- Click the Merge into drop-down list and choose the existing rate label you want to use.
- Enter a Reason for deletion.
- Click Delete Selection. The rate label is deleted and you are returned to the Billing page.
