Deleting a Matter

Sometimes you may need to delete specific matters from your database. This article will walk you through how to do this.

1. Navigate to the specific matter that needs to be deleted, either from the Matters List or using the search bar.
2. Once you are in the matter click on the Information "i" at the top next to the name of the matter
   
   
3. Then click on "Edit"
   
   
4. Once in the Edit Matters Properties screen, if the delete button is red, click "Delete" and this will delete the matter from your database
   
   
5. If the delete button is grey you will need to hover over the 'i' icon next to it. This will show you why you cannot delete the matter. If the reason is as simple as a task is open against the matter then, you can delete that task, and go back through the steps above to delete the matter.
   
   

   NOTE If there are any accounting transactions or any other types of records against the matter then you will not be able to delete it, if this is the case then you can close the matter instead.
