When you first start using Actionstep Builder, you will need to install the Microsoft Word add-in, which gives you the tools you need to automate a template directly in Word. Additionally, you can use the Admin > Builder page to sync Actionstep changes with Builder.

Installing the Builder Word Add-In

To develop your Builder templates in Microsoft Word, you must install the Builder Word Designer, which is a Microsoft add-in.

To install and set up the Word add-in:

  1. In Microsoft Word, click the Home tab.
  2. Click Add-ins. The Add-Ins menu appears.
  3. Click More Add-Ins. The Office Add-ins window appears.
  4. Search for Actionstep Builder and then Add it.
  5. Once the Add option changes to Added, close the window.

Next, you can access and sign in to the add-in by clicking the Builder tab of the Word window.

To sign in to the Action Builder Word Designer:

  1. Click the Builder tab in your Word document. This displays the Builder ribbon.
  2. Click Sign In. The Word Designer panel appears to the right of the document.
  3. In the panel, click Sign in with Microsoft. If prompted, provide your sign-in credentials.
  4. Once you are signed in, the panel is updated to show your Builder workspace.

Once you've authorized the Builder add-in and signed in to the Word Designer, you can use it to create new templates, edit existing templates, or launch the full Online Workspace, which gives you access to all aspects of your template development.

Accessing Builder Settings

Admin users can use the Admin area of Actionstep to sync Actionstep with Builder. Specifically, if you create additional matter types, data collections, or custom data that you want to be available in Builder, you will need to resync Builder with Actionstep.

You can also use this settings page to launch the Builder Workspace.

To access these options:

  1. In Actionstep, go to Admin > Builder. The Actionstep Builder page appears.
  2. Use the following options, depending on your needs:
    • To sync any changes you've made to your matter types with Builder so those changes will be available in your Builder templates, click Update models. (See Syncing Changes in Actionstep with Builder (Admin) for more information.)
    • To view your Builder Online Workspace, click Open Workspace.
