Working with New Zealand GST Return Settings (Admin)

Modified on Mon, 2 Jun at 12:18 PM

You can set and edit your New Zealand GST tax return settings.

CAUTION: Actionstep provides the GST report as a shortcut to calculating your GST data. Actionstep can only calculate the data it has been given and your business is ultimately responsible for any data given to Inland Revenue. Actionstep does not provide advice for tax matters and if you have any concerns or if you are unsure about how to file your GST or the content of your GST, it's recommended you speak to an accountant or other expert in New Zealand tax law. The content in this article is purely to explain how to set up the GST return settings. Which options you select are your responsibility.

To do this:

  1. In Actionstep, go to Admin > Accounting. The Accounting page appears.
  2. Click Edit for the Tax Return Settings option. The Tax Return Settings page appears.
NOTE:  If you do not see a tax return plug-in on this page, contact Actionstep Support.
  3. Click the link for Nz_Ird_GstReturnStandard. The Edit Division Plugin window appears.
TIP:  When reviewing this options, consult your tax accountant if you have questions.
  4. Click the GST Taxable Period drop-down list and choose your tax period. (See the Inland Revenue website for more information.)
  5. Click the GST Accounting Basis drop-down list and choose either Accrual/Invoice Basis, Cash/Payment Basis, or Hybrid. (See the Inland Revenue website for additional information.)
  6. Click the GST Payment/Refund Allocation drop-down list and choose how you want payments/refunds allocated.
  7. Click the Journal Transaction Date drop-down list and choose the option you need.
  8. Click Save to save your changes.
