When you receive or create an email, you can use the Outlook add-in to assign it to a matter in Actionstep. This includes bulk assigning multiple emails to a matter. Finally, you can unassign an email from a matter.

Adding One or More Emails You've Received to a Matter
When you receive an email you can associate it with a matter. This includes bulk assigning multiple emails to a matter.
To do this
- Open Outlook. and click the Home tab.
- Select one or more emails in the inbox. (You can select and assign up to 100 emails.)
- If it's not displayed, click Open Actionstep to view the Actionstep pane.
- In the list of matters, select the matter you want to save the email (or emails) to. You can use the search box to find the matter if it's not displayed.
The email(s) are saved to the Inbox for the Comms tab of the matter.
Adding an Email You're Composing to a Matter
As you are drafting an email message, you can associate the message with a matter. Once the email is sent, a copy of it is saved to the matter's Comms tab, and details about the matter are displayed in the Actionstep pane in Outlook.
To add an email you're composing to a matter:
- Open Outlook.
- Click the Home tab and select New Email.
- If it's not displayed, click Open Actionstep to view the Actionstep pane.
- In the Assign to matter field, enter the name of the matter you want to save the email to then select it from the list of results.
- Complete the rest of the email message and send it. Once sent, the email is assigned to the Sent folder of the matter's Comms tab and details about the matter are displayed in the Actionstep pane.
Unassigning an Email from a Matter
You can remove the association between an email and the matter it has been assigned to.
To do this:
- In Outlook, open the email.
- If it's not visible, click Open Actionstep to display the Actionstep pane.
- Select the envelope icon in the top-left corner of the add-in and choose Unassign.
The Unassign Email window appears.
- Optionally, select Delete email. This will delete the email in Actionstep but it will not delete it in OutlookActionstep.
- Click Unassign.
