At times, you may need to update an email address for a user who's using both Legal Accounting and Practice Management.
Updating a user’s email address requires changes in both Practice Management and Legal Accounting. In Practice Management, you’ll need to remove the user, update their associated contact record(s) with the new email address, and then add the user again. You must also update the user’s email address in Legal Accounting so that it matches Practice Management. The email addresses must match for the user to access Legal Accounting and synchronize data successfully.
Part 1: To update the email address in Practice Management:
- Ensure the user is logged out of Practice Management and Legal Accounting.
- In Practice Management, go to Admin > Users & Permissions. The Users & Permissions page appears.
- Click Edit for the user you want to delete. The Edit User window appears.
- Click Delete and confirm the removal.

Use the global Search field in Practice Management to search for the contact record(s) for that user. If there is more than one contact record for the user, complete this process for each one:
- Open the contact record for that user.
- Click Edit (located in the top-right corner of the page).
- Update the Email address.
- Click Save to save your changes.
- Go back to Admin > Users & permissions. The Users & Permissions page appears.
- Click Invite New User.
- Enter and select the user's name in the Contact record.
- Enter the user's updated Email address and Timekeeper initials.
- Select the System role and provide any other additional information.
- Click Save to save your changes.
- Proceed to "Part 2: To update the email address in Legal Accounting" (below) to update the contact in Legal Accounting.
Part 2: To update the email address in Legal Accounting:
- Complete the steps outlined in "Part 1: To update the email address in Practice Management,"
- In Legal Accounting, go to Admin > Users > Users.
- Find the user in the list and double-click their name. The User Editor appears.
- Enter the new email address in the Email/Logon field.
- Click Save to save your changes.
The user can now sign back in to both Practice Management and Legal Accounting.
