Billable Fees vs. Budget: Firm Management Dashboard

The information in this article applies to Acumen, a Practice Management add-on that provides enhanced reporting dashboards for your firm. To learn more, please contact your customer success manager or your account representative.

This product is currently in early access.

To access the Firm Management dashboard:

  1. In Practice Management, go to Insights > Business Intelligence. The Insights page is displayed.
  2. Select Firm Management from the list of options on the left side of the page. The Firm Management Dashboard is displayed.

This chart compares billed fees each month against the budgeted targets. It highlights how performance is tracking relative to expectations, which makes it easy to identify months where fees exceeded or fell short of budget. This can help you assess overall trends over time.

Note: KPI and actual figures are pulled from the KPI setup, which you can access by going to Accounting > Accounts > KPIs. Only those staff with the Sales checkbox selected will be included. If their Sales figure is 0, the KPI target is also $0.

You can hover over a specific point on the graph to view details about the billed vs. budgeted fees, or click the chart to view the Fees Bills vs. Budget Report for a detailed breakdown of this information. This report only covers fee earners that have KPI metrics set up. You can use date filters to fine-tune the data.

 Fees Bills vs. Budget Report

  • Fee Earner: This shows the name or names of the fee earners.
  • Budgeted Billable Fees: This shows the target attributed to the fee earner. You can review this amount by going to Accounting > Accounts > KPI.
  • Actual Billable Fees: This shows the amount of actual fees invoiced by that fee earner for the period (exclusive of disbursements and tax). You can review this amount by going to Reports > Billing Reports > Fee Allocation Per Invoice Report. (You must configure the report to show the Fee Earner Summary (under Advanced).)
  • % of KPI met: This shows the percentage of the KPI that was reached. This is calculated using the following formula: Actual Fees/KPI Target * 100.
