Actionstep lets you open and edit documents stored for a matter using the following integrations:
Note:
In the past, Actionstep provided a Microsoft Office plug-in for editing
and managing MS Office files. Because the plug-in relied on outdated technology
that was no longer supported by Microsoft or Actionstep, in July 2026,
users were notified that soon, the plug-in will officially be discontinued.
Users were directed to use Office for the Web or OneDrive instead.
Both options are described below, along with links to learn more.
If you used
the Office plug-in and find you need additional functionality that isn't available
in the solutions below, please submit a feedback request. See
Viewing the Actionstep Roadmap
to learn how.

Office Using OneDrive
What software is needed: Microsoft Office (Requires an Office 365 Business account)
Supported devices: PC, Mac
What to know:
- This option will open the document in the desktop version of Microsoft Office.
- Changes that are made to the document will not be saved to Actionstep until you are finished, however it will save to your OneDrive account so the risk of loosing your progress is unlikely.
- When you open the document, it will show as 'Checked out' in Actionstep. This will prevent any other users from opening the same document. Actionstep will automatically check Microsoft documents back in 5 minutes after they have been closed, or you can manually check the document back in before that.
