Sometimes you need to make changes to tasks you've created or reassign the task to another person in your firm.
This article helps you find and update your tasks.
Editing a Task
- In Actionstep Practice Management, do one of the following to find the task you want to edit:
- Click Tasks in the main menu. Then select the type of task you are searching for (e.g., Incomplete, Due Today, Overdue, etc.).

Edit a matter. Then click the Tasks menu icon.
The task list appears.
- Click Tasks in the main menu. Then select the type of task you are searching for (e.g., Incomplete, Due Today, Overdue, etc.).
- Select a task name to open it. The Edit Task window appears.
- Make any changes you need. (See Adding a Task to learn about the different fields available on this window.)
- Click Save to save your changes.
Reassigning a Task to Another User
You can reassign a task to a different user.
To do this:
- In Actionstep, complete one of the following to find the task you want to edit:
- Click Tasks in the main menu. Then select the type of task you are searching for (e.g., Incomplete, Due Today, Overdue, etc.).

Edit a matter. Then click the Tasks menu icon.
The task list appears.
- Click Tasks in the main menu. Then select the type of task you are searching for (e.g., Incomplete, Due Today, Overdue, etc.).
- Select a task name to open it. The Edit Task window appears.
- Click the Assigned to drop-down list and choose the user who should take ownership of the task.
- Click Save to save your changes.
Changing a Task's Matter, Assignee, or Date
You can easily change who a task is assigned to, its due date, or which matter it's assigned to. You can change one task or update multiple tasks at once, if needed.
To do this:
- In Practice Management, go to Tasks and choose the specific type of task you want to update (e.g., Incomplete, Due Today, Overdue, etc.).
- In the list of tasks, select the checkbox for one or more tasks.
- Click the Change drop-down list and choose the type of change you want to make:
- Choose Change Matter to reassign the selected task(s) to a different matter.
- Choose Change Due Date to assign a new due date to the selected task(s). With this option, you can adjust the existing date by a certain number of days or months, or you can choose a new date.
- Choose Change Assignee to assign the task to a different user at your firm.
